Tamil Nadu MBBS and BDS Round 2: choice filling closes 13 September, result on the 15th
9 September 2026 · TedQu Sigma desk
Tamil Nadu’s Selection Committee is running Round 2 of MBBS and BDS counselling on a tight clock: registration closed on 8 September, choice filling and locking run until 2 PM on 13 September, and the allotment result comes on 15 September with joining by 18 September. Here is the calendar from the official schedule, who needs to act, and the four rules that catch candidates out.
The Round 2 calendar (government and management quota)
- Registration and payment: 7 September, 10 AM to 8 September, 5 PM (closed).
- Choice filling and locking: 9 September, 2 PM to 13 September, 2 PM.
- Locking opens late: the lock button is enabled only from 10 AM on 12 September, because the All India Quota result is expected on 11 September. Fill choices now, lock after you know your MCC outcome.
- Auto-lock: choices not locked by 2 PM on 13 September are locked automatically as they stand.
- Seat allotment processed: 14 September. Result: 15 September.
- Provisional allotment order download: 15 September to 3 PM on 18 September.
- Last date to join the college: 18 September, 5 PM.
Ranks called this round run from general rank 1 to 35,926 for the government quota (NEET 705 down to 177) and 1 to 26,956 for the management quota (693 down to 177). The 7.5% quota for government-school students runs on a parallel schedule published the same day; check that notice separately if it applies to you. The portal is tnmedicalselection.net, and the committee has said it will not contact anyone directly – the website is the only channel.
Who needs to do what
- Registered in Round 1, no seat: no re-registration. Fill choices.
- Allotted in Round 1 but did not join: no re-registration. Fill choices.
- Joined in Round 1 and opted for upgradation at the college: nothing more to register; your seat is already a virtual vacancy. Fill choices only if you want a change.
- Joined in Round 1 and said “no” to upgradation, but changed your mind: you had to log in during the 7 to 8 September registration window to opt in. If you did not, there is no upgrade this round.
- Never registered: fresh registration was allowed only for names already on the published merit list.
- Happy with your seat: do nothing. It is retained automatically.
The four rules that catch people
- Upgraded means the old seat is gone. If Round 2 allots you a higher choice, you must relinquish the Round 1 seat and join the new one. You keep no claim on the Round 1 seat even if you never report to the new college.
- Locked is final. You can edit choices until you lock; after that, nothing changes. And unlocked lists get locked for you at 2 PM on the 13th.
- Free exit exists – but only for fresh allottees. Freshly allotted in Round 2 and decide not to report? You can still take part in later rounds without forfeiture.
- Discontinuing after the resignation date costs money. Join and then leave after the stipulated date, and you can still sit Round 3 – minus the registration fee and the security deposit.
Money and paperwork on result day
- Tuition fee first, allotment order second. Freshly allotted MBBS candidates, and BDS candidates in government dental colleges, pay the tuition fee online to download the provisional allotment order. Make sure the card or net-banking limit is raised beforehand.
- Exemption: SC, SCA, ST and SCC candidates with a valid family income certificate under 2.5 lakh do not pay upfront to download the order.
- Re-allotted from Round 1: pay only the difference, if any.
- BDS in self-financing dental colleges: fee is paid at the college at admission.
- Reporting: certificate verification happens at the college itself. Carry originals in person, plus scanned copies. Miss the 18 September, 5 PM deadline and the admission is cancelled without further notice.
The Sigma take
- The whole Round 2 window is nine days. Put the four dates on your phone now: lock opens 12 September, lock closes 13 September, result 15 September, joining 18 September.
- For the 2027 batch: the general-quota cutoff this round reached down to 177 marks. Rank, not luck, decides which list you are on – and that is built between now and May.
