MCC Round 2 result lands 11 September – and every round after it gets stricter
9 September 2026 · TedQu Sigma desk
MCC closed choice locking for Round 2 on 9 September. The Round 2 allotment result is due on 11 September, with reporting at the allotted college from 12 to 18 September. From here the counselling gets less forgiving with every round – so here is what the result day, Round 3 and the stray vacancy round actually mean before you click anything.
Where Round 2 stands
- Registration and fee: 3 to 8 September (closed).
- Choice filling: 3 to 9 September; locking on 8 and 9 September (closed).
- Seat allotment result: 11 September.
- Reporting and joining at the college: 12 to 18 September.
This is MCC’s round – the 15% All India Quota plus deemed and central universities. The 85% state quota runs on your state’s own calendar, and the two are deliberately staggered: Tamil Nadu, for example, opens choice locking for its Round 2 only after MCC’s result is out. If you are in both, read our Tamil Nadu Round 2 guide alongside this one.
What to do on 11 September
- Allotted a seat you want: download the allotment letter, carry originals, and report inside the 12 to 18 September window. Late is the same as absent.
- Upgraded from a Round 1 seat: the old seat is gone the moment the upgrade is allotted. You cannot fall back to it, even if you never join the new one.
- Allotted but not sure: this is the last round with a soft landing. Read the rules below before deciding to skip.
- Not allotted: you are automatically eligible for Round 3, but you must fill choices afresh when it opens.
Round 3 is where the exits close
MCC publishes the Round 3 dates after Round 2 reporting ends on 18 September; the usual pattern puts Round 3 in the second half of September. The rules are the part to internalise now, because they change the maths of choice filling:
- Fresh choice filling is mandatory. Nothing carries over from Round 2.
- Physical reporting is mandatory for every Round 3 allottee.
- No resignation after joining a Round 3 seat. Once you report, that is your college.
- Not joining an allotted Round 3 seat forfeits the security deposit and can shut you out of the remaining rounds.
Practical translation: in Round 3, list only colleges you would actually attend. A “let me see what I get” choice becomes a binding one.
Stray vacancy round: last call, no safety net
The online stray vacancy round fills whatever is left after Round 3, typically in early October. Three things make it different: you must register afresh, only candidates not holding or having joined any seat can take part, and there is no free exit – an allotment must be joined or the deposit goes.
Rules that survive every round
- Fill fewer, truer choices. Every choice you list is a college you are agreeing to join.
- Upgrade only for a clear step up. A marginal upgrade costs you a seat you already held.
- Keep the paperwork live. Originals, fee arrangements and the allotment letter should be ready before the result, not after.
- Run both clocks. MCC and your state counselling overlap by design. Missing a state deadline while waiting on MCC is the most common September mistake.
The Sigma take
- If you are reading this as a 2027 aspirant: every round of counselling is won months earlier, by rank. Sigma’s NEET-pattern mocks and the exam-readiness score tell you honestly where that rank is heading.
