MCC NEET counselling 2026: Round 1 allotment lands 17 August – here’s the full round map
14 August 2026 · TedQu Sigma desk
The Medical Counselling Committee’s NEET UG 2026 counselling is in full swing. Round 1 registration ran 5–12 August, choice filling and locking closed on 13 August, and the Round 1 seat allotment result arrives on 17 August. If you have a qualified sibling or friend in this cycle, here’s the map – and if you’re the 2027 batch, this is your preview.
How the rounds work
- Round 1: the big shuffle – first allotments against the 15% All India Quota and central institutions that MCC handles.
- Round 2 and Round 3: seats vacated by upgrades, exits and fresh choices move down the list. Many candidates get their real seat here, not in Round 1.
- Online Stray Vacancy Round: the last sweep, filling whatever remains – no fresh registrations, no exits.
State counselling for the remaining 85% of seats runs in parallel through each state’s own authority, with its own schedule – one more reason this season demands a calendar on the wall.
Three mistakes that cost seats every year
- Filling few choices. More valid choices means more chances – the algorithm can’t allot what you didn’t list.
- Ignoring the fee and document deadlines. An allotment you don’t report for is a seat lost, not deferred.
- Panicking after Round 1. Upgrades are the norm. Understand the free-exit and upgrade rules before making irreversible calls.
The Sigma take
- For the 2027 batch: your counselling stress next year is decided by your rank this year. The seat you get in August 2027 is being earned in the mocks you take this September.
